SMARTDEPLOY PXE IMAGING
1. Power on or restart device
2. F12 boot into BIOS
a. Enter the BIOS Setup and verify that these settings are set and saved:
i. Integrated Devices: Enable Thunderbolt Boot Support (On)
ii. Integrated Devices: Enable Thunderbolt Technology Support (On)
iii. Storage: AHCI
iv. Connection: Enable UEFI Network Stack (On)
v. System Management: Wake on LAN (LAN Only)
3. F12 boot into BIOS
4. Select the IPv4 option
5. Press the ‘Enter’ button when prompted
a. This step needs to be performed almost immediately after the PXE boot starts.
b. If asked for a password please enter Ar(@nuM!
6. The device will begin applying the image
7. If you are prompted to proceed even though a platform package was not found/detected, select ‘Yes.’
a. This refers to the built-in driver package. SmartDeploy has driver packages for most device models but not all.
8. Wait for the device to finish imaging (10-15 minutes)
9. The device will automatically join our domain. There is no longer a need to pre-stage a device in Active Directory.
10. Once the device has completed imaging, sign in to the computer.
11. Run all Windows and Dell Command Updates
12. Advanced Network Settings > Advanced Sharing settings > Enable Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing on Domain networks
13. Enable local Administrator account through Computer Management
14. Perform a gpupdate /force
15. Verify that LAPS and Crowdstrike are on the device.
a. A restart may be necessary
16. Verify Windows Version is Enterprise.
a. Type winver into search bar
17. The device is ready for an end user.
a. If you have the user's credentials, use the user’s complete email address as the username on the initial sign-in. This will assist with joining the device to Microsoft Intune.
b. After signing into the device with a user’s credentials, verify that the device has joined to Intune. If the device does not appear after 10-15 minutes, while signed into the user’s account:
i. Open ‘Access work or school’
ii. Expand asetdm.lcl
iii. Select the ‘Info’ button
iv. Select the ‘Sync’ button
v. Wait until the sync completes and then check Microsoft Intune again after 5-10 minutes.
18. Verify that the device has joined Microsoft Intune before deploying to an end user.
